This is my version of Derrick Story's Altoids Case for the iPod Shuffle. The one major modifaction I've made is the use of the Shuffle's original packaging to make the iPod more secure within the Altoids box.

The Shuffle comes from Apple nestled in a clear plastic shell that seems too well made to just throw away. So, I cut out the iPod compartment from the shell in the shape of the Altoids box. After trimming to make the fit perfect, I drop the iPod into the shell, and then place it, upsidedown, in the Altoids box lid. Put the ear-buds and instruction card in the bottom and close. The box stays shut quite securely, but I added a big rubberband just to be safe.

One key point: notice that I cut the shell so that the iPod sits off-center. This allows the ear-buds to sit against the outside wall of the case so that the lid can close all the way. I think that if the iPod were centered in the case you might have trouble closing the lid.

I've been quite worried with my Shuffle floating free in my backpack's pockets, and I think this is a good, cheap solution.
