![]() This is our current favorite Samuel expression, an expression that is the result of his new ability to hold his head up and look around. We have also lately enjoyed making up situational surnames for Samuel. We would call the Samuel in this photo Mr. Curious. Other popular names are: Mr. Fussy, Mr. Sleepy, and, of course, Mr. Gassy. Sadly, today is the last day of November, so we will no longer enjoy daily posts from Sadie, Dylan, and Avery (oh, and Dan too, but he isn't a baby so no one really cares about his blog except me). You can all feel free to cut back and post every other day -- you deserve a little rest. { Thursday, November 30, 2006 | Comment # } ![]() Prefer a more mellow Samuel? Try this. { Monday, November 27, 2006 | Comment # } ![]() More Thanksgiving Day Fun. Samuel may look like his mom, but he is a nice fat baby just like his dad. { Sunday, November 26, 2006 | Comment # } ![]() We had a wonderful Thanksgiving at Gran and Grandad's house in Concord yesterday. The food and the company were outstanding. Samuel was also finally introduced to John (also known as "John John" or "Melissa's Husband") this morning. Samuel let John hold him while sitting, so he must have liked him. Sam won't even let us do that most of the time. { Friday, November 24, 2006 | Comment # } ![]() The last three nights Samuel has been oddly excited by Bob Dylan songs, staring in the direction the speakers and "talking" in a way that he never does to us. I'm taking it as a sign of his good taste in music. { Thursday, November 16, 2006 | Comment # } ![]() For fun, compare to this bath photo from earlier in the month. { Tuesday, November 14, 2006 | Comment # } ![]() We went to Rochester yesterday to see Auntie Sarah and Uncle Shaun's new house, and to wish Sarah a happy birthday. I know there isn't much interest in photos that don't include Samuel, but I'm going to offer a Not Samuel Photo of the Day (n.s.p.o.t.d.), just for fun. Click or not, the choice is yours. { Sunday, November 12, 2006 | Comment # } ![]() Here's one of Samuel's favorite expressions: the intense stare. Sam received his two-month immunizations yesterday, causing him to cry louder and harder than he ever has before. That's really saying something for the guy that cried at the top of his lungs for the entire first hour of his life. Beth was able to quiet him pretty quickly once the needles were removed, thank goodness. Last night he found that same cry again a few times, but he seems to be over the trauma completely today. For those who might be curious, he weighed in at 13 lbs. 2 oz., a pound less than Beth and I were predicting based on past experience. { Friday, November 10, 2006 | Comment # } ![]() Beth and I have both been very sick, which explains why we've been silent recently. We also had a very nice visit with Nana and Uncle Tim, and we miss them already. Since the first moments of labor, parenthood has been a blur, though it seems that the three of us have gotten to know each other. And I guess I've found my first roles as Sam's dad:
I can do other stuff too, but those are my favorites. What's most amazed us lately is that it takes me 15 minutes of bouncing to get Samuel to sleep, while it takes Beth about 15 seconds of saying, "Shhhhh." I guess they're comfortable with each other. I also thought I'd share this photo with you, taken less than a quarter mile into the woods beside our house. Isn't NH great? { Wednesday, November 08, 2006 | Comment # } ![]() Nana and Uncle Tim are here for a long weekend visit. We all went to Krista and Taylor's house yesterday for a pre-Thanksgiving feast. Beth and I made ten pounds of mashed potatoes, slightly over-estimating the amount we needed. We now have about five pounds of leftover mashed potatoes. But don't worry, Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone by Deborah Madison (the best cookbook we've ever used, vegetarian or otherwise) has a recipe for Mashed Potato Cakes that she recommends serving with fried eggs and salsa. Yum. { Sunday, November 05, 2006 | Comment # } ![]() We hadn't planned to dress Sam up for Halloween, but we changed our minds, slapped together a ghost costume, and drove him over to see Gran and Grandad. His aunt Ashley sent the ghost hat up from Alabama just in time. (The Hyde Family has decided to join in on the daily-posting fun. Daily Sadie and daily Dylan/Avery means that Beth is a very happy blog reader this November.) { Thursday, November 02, 2006 | Comment # } |
