we like snow.

Don't go outside unless you're dressed like this.

[Doug, Erin, Greg, and Travis should disregard this post. New England really is lovely this time of year, even with the bugs.]

Phoebes and Robins, who have moved in just around the corner from the Phoebes.

We have a family of Eastern Phoebes (photo) nesting above our back door. Phoebes are flycatchers, so we're especially glad to have them with us for the summer. I might have to start letting Mable out the front door so we don't disturb the babies.

Best quote yet from our baby reading:
Every time you eat, make a mental picture of your hungry baby... Imagine your baby munching along with you, bite for bite... and that baby's kicking means "Yum, send down more."

"Hello, baby! I'm sending some juicy strawberries down... I know you like these. Are you still hungry, you little thing? Do you want one more?"

--From Birthing From Within by Pam England & Rob Horowitz
A corny quote to go with the corny photograph.

Here it is: your first look at the baby. The baby moved around a lot more than I thought it would, and when you're watching the sonogram in real-time it's easy to tell what is what.

If people want me to I'll do a proper scanned version of this later, but this should tide you over. You can even see a big version, but it isn't that crisp.

Beth is still doing great.

For the record, I did not make this carving, though I do walk by it every day when Mable and I are out for our walk.

I spent Saturday morning making a log cabin style compost bin. You can see my progress here. I probably need to go up a couple more levels, but I think it's coming along pretty well. The only tool required to make this kind of composter is the best tool there is: a chain saw. The only materials required are fallen trees, of which we have plenty. It's very sturdy, yet easily disassembled if we ever want to move it. (Erin and Melissa may wish to check out my choice of work socks.)

We also watched The Squid and the Whale on Friday and Walk the Line on Saturday. I loved Walk the Line -- I think it's one of my new favorite movies.

Notice anything different?

We had lunch with Ann, Dan, and Sadie yesterday and they strongly encouraged us to mention the chum that Beth is growing for Sadie. So here s/he is -- the baby's first appearance. The belly is really starting to grow, as is our excitement.

(See Beth's missing head here.)
