we like snow.

Christmas was wicked awesome, as predicted. Beth and I are still feeling a little sad that it's over, but we have lots of Christmas booty to keep our minds off our sadness. I can also stop being depressed about the drought now that the rain has begun. The clouds this morning were the color of our little title bar up there, and that was pretty phatty.

Phish is playing tonight in New York City. I won't be there. Instead, Jeff will be coming to Portland and we will celebrate with food and music. A crazy band called The Planet The is playing, so we might go see them. This band is made up of really skinny guys with greasy hair who wear children's clothing. It's either that or some bluegrass played by men who wear flannel shirts and cowboy hats pulled down over their eyes.

Here's my short and stupid Best of 2002 List:

Album: Yankee Hotel Foxtrot by Wilco, followed closely by Is a Woman by Lambchop
Concert: Lambchop @ St. John's Pub
Meal: Sushi Boat in Montreal, followed closely by traditional Korean supper featuring raw "Amonia Fish"
Party: Dan and Ann's Wedding
Book: I just don't know.
Bethism: Well, number one is not suitable for all audiences, so I'll go with number two – "ASTONISHING!"

Saturday we leave for my uncle Jimmy's house in California. I haven't been this excited for Christmas in years. Hiram, Marybeth, and Sarah will all be flying out from New Hampshire to spend the week. And, if we needed any more reason than just being together to celebrate, Sarah just finished her last final at UNH and she's done with college.

We are planning trips to: San Francisco, a couple breweries, vineyards and wineries, and probably the beach. Jimmy is a winemaker at Clos du Bois so we are sure to spend the week drinking good wine and turning our teeth purple. I'm also hoping to have an old-fashioned sing-along with my fellow guitar players, Aunt Carol and Cousin Sean. I might even convince Marybeth to play her famous version of "Blowin' in the Wind."

I'll be sure to take lots of artsy pictures that everyone except Steph will hate and post them here just to give Dan and Hiram something to complain about.

Don't tell, but I haven't bought a thing for Beth. Does anyone know what she wants? Besides naughty under-things.

for a girl: A new name is offered for opinion nearly every day, and I can't keep track. I think Ella is her current favorite.

Why are we even talking about this?!?!

We saw Beck and the Flaming Lips last night, and it rocked my socks off. It was an absolute spectacle with four giant mirror balls, people in animal costumes, fake blood, and 500,000 candlepower flashlights. But, above all, was the music. They played pretty straightforward renditions, but there was no lack of emotion. It was worth the staggering price tag.

You can see it yourself next month on Austin City Limits.
