competitions for playwrights. They have an annual festival of one-minute
plays. They especially encourage the writers from the Greater Philadelphia
Area, but they also accept submissions from other places in the Playwrights Canada
Press distributes its own published titles, as well as all the unpublished
titles available through the Canadian Plays Catalogue. It also is the
Canadian distributor for four lists from other publishers, Icarus Press,
Aurora Metro Publications, Nick Hern Books and the Theatre Communications
Group. Playwrights Canada Press books are distributed in the United States by

are real workshops that were done by drama facilitators and can be modified
to suit the needs of any particular group by making a few modifications to
them. There is also a set of improv exercises for grades 6 and
up. This site would be perfect for classroom teachers who are not
specifically trained in drama because of the simplicity of it’ layout
and explanation of terms but could be equally useful for studios offering

for a EDINBURGH GUIDE (UK) The A guide to theater
in Billed as 'the
internet's scriptwriting workshop', E-script offers three categories:
workshops, courses, and one-time consultations on film scripts, playwriting,
or TV scripts. The E-courses for all categories come in either 5 or 10 week
classes- ($150, or $275 respectively). A weekly tutorial is given to the
student, with the added enticement of being able to send personal emails to
the instructors, join a listserve and chatroom with other students and those
who have previously enrolled, and at the end of the course, 'meet' with
the instructor in a chatroom. A workshop is one-on-one via email between
student and instructor, with the same benefits: and the third option, is a
one-off critique of scripts for a flat fee of $150. There are resources of
Q&A, international bits and pieces of news with links to media. The site
offers a store for books, software, CD's, etc. ESTABLISHING COMMUNICATION FOR WOMEN THEATRE ARTISTS The Fiction Works
publishes an extensive variety of titles in audio, paperback and e-Book
titles. They take an original fictional story and produce it as an audio
book, using actors, sound effects, music, etc. They do not accept plays, only
stories at this time. The current competition closes The Field provides
comprehensive programming for artists on a completely non-curated basis but
only in NYC. Participation is open to artists from all aesthetic viewpoints
and levels of development. The priority is to create a climate where
experimentation, risk-taking, and originality are championed, and where the
broadest range of voices are included. There are also classes given dealing
with business end of being an artist. Guerrilla Girls On Tour is an internationally acclaimed anonymous theatre
collective founded by three former members of Guerrilla Girls. The "theatre girls", as they are

being "the most comprehensive Catalogue of Plays in the
World". Plays are easily to locate by browsing 'plays by
genre'. Also available to order from this site are theatre-related
books and out-of-print plays. There are sections for dance, music and
stagecraft as well as a section called study and theory where there are links
to playwriting, acting and directing (among others). This is a definite
5 star site. For playwrights this website provides "a free and unique

information. TDR covers numerous performance arts including theatre but

professional theatre, particularly for the citizens of THE KANSAS CITY WOMEN’S PLAYWRITING FESTIVAL The Kansas City
Women’s Playwriting Festival was first produced in 1995 by Potluck
Productions to create more opportunities for emerging female playwrights to
produce their work. The company’s goal is to produce an annual festival
highlighting the best in new scripts by local (and occasionally national)
female playwrights. The first production premiered at the Theatre for Young
America and was invited for encore presentation at both LA RONDE - THE PLAYWRIGHTS' RING LORCA PERESS, MULTISTAGES PLAY CONTEST (NEW YORK) MultiStages, a
multicultural multidisciplinary theatre company, is seeking unproduced,
non-traditional, high quality multidisciplinary full-length plays by
established and emerging writers for its third New Works Playwriting Contest.
Artistic multi-disciplines include dance, music composition, visual arts,
puppetry, poetry, masks, multimedia, etc. All scripts must respect
non-traditional casting choices and are subject to further development by MultiStages.

guide not only offers a lot of valuable information for playwrights but also
those interested in performing. Sections are categorized by specific topic
and contain a multitude of links to other great resources both online and
off. There are also links to "celebrity" sites and acting
workshops. Costuming, puppetry, robotics and other technical aspects of
mounting a production are also addressed. This is another

HISTORY PROJECT (US) This is a
non-profit, professional theatre whose primary mission is to develop and
produce new plays with diverse themes as well as devoted to creating an
atmosphere where classics can take on a fresh look and forgotten plays can
find a home. Although not a
direct educational resource, a good contact for playwrights. NEW YORK FOUNDATION FOR THE ARTS Contains information
about the NYFA activities: job opportunities for artists, education programs,
a featured magazine about arts, a calendar of activities, etc. Updated weekly.

newsletter contains great articles on the craft and business of
playwriting. The most recent issue contains an article on Submission
Policies and an interview with Jeff Sweet. Past newsletters are also
archived on the site. There is definitely some useful information here

marketing resource, rather than educational. PLAYWRIGHTS'
CENTER OF SAN FRANCISCO This organization is
open to anyone interested in the creation and development of new stage
works. They offer weekly readings, they organize workshops and they
conduct seminars and local contests as well as offering lectures and classes.
Those who wish to participate must be able to commute in the Bay Area.
Of their many links, most are local to the Bay Area, but there are some other
good general resources as well. Full membership is $35.00 and audience
membership is $25.00. One of the pages of
stageplays.com, the market page is a free resource for theatres and
non-profit organizations and a place for playwrights to locate opportunities
for production and publication. The site boasts a free, monthly
e-zine by clicking on the appropriate link near the top of the page.
This is a great online source of markets all in one handy place. The
internet theatre bookshop link is also found near the bottom of this page

ON THE WEB ~ An international contact List for
playwrights & their websites. This is a phenomenal
resource site and a "must" for your favorites. Consisting of a
230+page online manual, visitors to this site will find everything from how
to format a manuscript to help with developing characters, dialogue, plot

resources. There's just so much that it's difficult to summarize all

producing new works by emerging playwrights. It is, therefore, a good
market for less experienced playwrights looking to get productions. The

the Puttin' on the Ritz new play festival, details information for
submissions. The last listing for winners to this "contest" is
for 1999 which leads me to believe that it may not be a viable opportunity

Broadway is a performing arts studio offering classes for those interested in
becoming a "triple-threat". With instruction in voice
(specializing in musical theatre and pop), dance (including tap, jazz, ballet
and theatre dance) and drama (musical theatre style), the studio offers a
wide variety of classes. Owners Jacqueline McMahon (ICWP) and Connie
Fairbrother also write original scripts to be performed by kids and

State University) collects and maintains performing arts research
materials. Besides publishing "Theatre Studies", its annual
journal, the TRI is an archive for playwrights, performers, theatre companies
and others. With everything from lecture notes to daily journals;
financial information to design notes, their library is a wealth of
resources. ICWPer, Linda Eisenstein has scripts archived in the "playwright's
collections" section. THE FOUNDATION CENTER ~ Foundation Grants to Individuals Online Quickly search detailed descriptions of over 5,800
foundation programs for students, artists, researchers, and other individual
grant seekers. THE
PRODUCERS GUILD OF AMERICA THE WRITERS GUILD OF GREAT BRITAIN Comprehensive
site for writers of many genres, including
tv, radio, film, animation, theatre, books
and children’s writing. Has
commission rates for different writing commissions, royalty rates etc. A site with an
extensive number of sections including articles for writers, manuscript
formats, a discussion forum for writers, publishers, illustrators, agents and
anyone associated with the industry. There is a page titled,
‘Plays and Scripts’, but it looks as though there isn’t
anything listed there yet. There is also an impressive page of
writer’s guides links. This site is literally a good resource for
any and all writers.
VIRTUAL LIBRARY
THEATRE AND DRAMA This
comprehensive site contains links to resources from more than 50
countries. Links include: Academic
institutions/conferences/scripts online/mailing lists/theatre books/theatre
companies and much, much more. Purchases are made through
Amazon.com. With so many links to so much information, this site is
