Memory

By: Daniel Macks
Original: Cats "Memory" (Andrew Lloyd Webber & Don Black)

Midnight, 'nother shift at the console
Their jobs running slowly
I play xtank alone
'Neath the servers, their USENET posts collect on the floor
The luzers begin to moan.

Memory, my machine needs more memory
I can smile at the old days
Of my PDP-10.
Can't remember a time I knew what happiness was
Let the memory live again

Ev'ry moron wants to get on the internet
While VCRs flashed they all mad-dashed
Like iron dust to a magnet

Daylight, I have heard about daylight
But of course not in this room
It just cannot seep in.
When the dawn comes this shift will be a bad memory too
As a new BOFH saunters in.

Foil-wrapped head and haunted gaze--
Succumbed as I LARTed
A luzer dies
Another account's closing
Another lesson imparted

Crashing? Why are servers now thrashing?
And the warning lights flashing?
This is gonna be fun.
Boy I wonder just what the hell has gone wrong this time
Joy, a new shift has begun
