From Jim.Teresco@vuser.vu.union.edu Tue Jan 13 12:11:30 1998 Date: Sat, 10 Jan 1998 10:03:42 -0500 From: Jim Teresco To: INFO-HOCKEY-L@MAINE.MAINE.EDU Subject: Brown-Union Box, 1/9/98 Union played very well for two periods but couldn't keep up with Brown in the third period, as the Bears took a 3-2 win at Achilles on Friday. The Dutchmen dominated most of the first period, but were unable to score on Jeff Holowaty. Brown took a 1-0 lead late in the period on a Damian Prescott one-timer, and extended it to 2-0 early in the second. The Dutchmen fought back, led by captains Brent Ozarowski and Mark Szucs. Ozarowski forced a turnover and worked his way past the Brown defense to come in alone on Holowaty. Holowaty stopped the first shot, but Ozarowski stayed with it and put in the rebound. Later in the period, Ozarowski set up a shot by Szucs which tied the score at 2. The second assist on the tying goal was awarded to goalie Trevor Koenig. Brown regained the lead early in the third, when a puck bounced over a Union stick at the point, setting up a 2-on-1 break. Koenig stopped the first shot, but Paul Giblin put in the rebound for the game-winner. Brown had the better of the chances in the rest of the game, with Koenig being forced to make some big saves to keep Union in it. Brown also hit three posts or crossbars, so it could have been worse for the Dutchmen and Koenig. Despite getting more than 30 shots (33) and holding Brown to under 30 (27), both of which are rare for Union this season, the Dutchmen's winless streak is extended to 6 games (0-5-1), and their season records fall to 2-6-1 in the league and 3-13-2 overall. Harvard visits Achilles Saturday.
