Valente" To: INFO-HOCKEY-L@MAINE.MAINE.EDU Subject: Brown University Recruits (Class of 2001) BROWN RECRUITS (Class of 2001) AND 1997-98 SCHEDULE Seven freshmen (Class of 2001) will be joining the Brown men's hockey team next season: DEFENSEMEN (2) CHRIS WARRINGTON (Slatersville, RI) Phillips Andover 6"2" 200 A potential NHL draft pick, Chris is an excellent skater with very good skills and size. MIKE PRATT (Sherwood Park, Alb) Penticton Panthers (BCHL) 5'11" 185 Matt is a physical defensive defenseman in the Mike Traggio ('95 Brown captain) mould. FORWARDS (5) DOUG JANJEVICH (Milton, Ont.) Milton Merchants 5'11 175 Doug is a smooth skater with very good hockey sense and excellent scoring potential. MATT KOHANSKI (Norfolk, MA) Northfield Mt. Hermon 5'9" 170 Matt is a skilled playmaking center who plays the game much like Derek Chauvette ('93 Brown co-captain). JOHN ZIELINSKI (Saanichton, BC) Notre Dame Hounds (Sak.) 6' 185 John is a sound offensive player with good size and an excellent shot. SHAWN BRACKENRIDGE (W. Seneca, NY) Nichols School 5'10" 175 Shawn has been described as a "character player." He possesses natural leadership qualities and plays the game with a lot of intensity. JOHN PETRICIG (Cranston, RI) Avon Old Farms 6' 185 John was described by one of the Brown assistant coaches as "a diamond in the rough." He's expected to develop into a sound winger. This is considered one of Brown's best recruiting classes ever. Players like Janjevich, Warrington and Kohanski are expected to make an immediate impact, and all seven are expcted to develop into regular performers. In addition to these seven recruits, two sophomores will become eligible in 1997-98. Ryan MacNevin had to sit out his freshman year due to an eligibility rule involving Canadian junior players. He's an excellent playmaking defenseman, who would have been a starter in 1996-97. Harvard University transfer Mike Bent will become available after first-semester exams. He's expected to make a major contribution to the Brown offense from the left wing position.
