Mission of the Netspace Foundation


The following text describes the mission of the Netspace Foundation, as it was stated in our Articles of Incorporation.

The purpose or purposes for which the Corporation is to be formed and for which it shall be operated exclusively are as follows:

(a) The overall public or quasi-public objective of the Corporation is to provide the general public with a non-commercial electronic forum for the exchange and discussion of ideas, dissemination of information and facilitation of free speech and expression;

(b) To continue and improve the provision of Internet services to not-for-profit and non-commercial entities and individuals on a user-supported, non-commercial basis and thereby serve as a forum for free expression, discussion and dissemination of information, including serving those existing NetSpace Project ("legacy") users, sites and mailing lists relating to contemporary music, culture and "grass roots" community service groups;

(c) To continue and improve the work and services begun by the students of Brown University in 1994 and maintained to the present as an unincorporated student organization with Brown University support, and to those ends to acquire, hold and use for the purposes of the corporation all property belonging to the unincorporated student organization, including all equipment, remaining funds on hand, software and/or software licenses, internet domain registrations, trademarks, copyrights and any other property whatsoever whether physical or intellectual which is owned by the Brown University NetSpace Project student association;

(d) To do any other act or thing incidental to or connected with the foregoing purposes or in advancement thereof, but not for the pecuniary profit or financial gain of its members, directors or officers except as permitted under Article 5 of the Not-for-Profit Corporation Law.
