Tape trading and live taping is more than just a hobby...it's a way of life. I have been involed with the former for several years now and have just recently joined the ranks of the live tapers. I have collected a bunch of resources for both trading and taping and listed them here for easy reference. Some tape cover links are also given, because we all know how unsightly those J-cards can be. I've divided the links into three categories, so you can jump to the section you want. Well, here goes...
Tape Trading|Tape Covers|Live Taping
- My Tape List
- The most important link goes first, of course. Find something that you'd like to trade for and then e-mail me.
- How To Trade Tapes
- This is a VERY rough draft of a guide to trading tapes that I'm working on. Let me know what you think.
- The Helping Phriendly Book
- The Helping Phriendly Book (HPB) contains every Phish setlist that could be found in the free world, accurate and FREE. You can also dowload a Microsoft Word version of the HPB from Phish.Net.
- Medeski Martin & Wood Setlists
- A very important resource for the MMW collector. Allows you to find the songs on the tape without resorting to the old "listen-and-compare" method.
- Michael Bell's Guide to Cassette Decks and Tape Trading
- I think one reason that tape deck manufacturers continue to make 3-head decks is because of the demand generated by this file. If you are serious about tape trading, read this as if it were Gospel.
- Charlie Dirksen's Grovel Tips
- So you really want some tapes from someone. But you don't have anything to offer in trade. Read this file to maximize your chances of getting a response.
- Maxell
- The tape brand of choice for almost every tape trader on the net.
- The Home Recording Rights Coalition
- Isn't it good to know that there is an organization in Washington fighting for our right to tape? Stop by their page and see what they are all about.
- Jake Morrill's Tape Covers
- My friend Jake has made a very impressive collection of covers, made more impressive by the fact that you can link to every other tape cover page on the web from his cover page.
- Addition Studios
- The tape cover king from now until his death is Bryan Noll. These covers will make you buy a color printer. It happened to me and it will happen to you.
- My Surrender To The Air Tape Cover
- Trying to run Photoshop with only 8 megs of ram is an exercise in futility. You can still make some cool things, however, like this tape cover.
- My Clifford Ball Tape Cover
- Another effort with my memory-crippled Photoshop.
- My Graffiti Tape Cover
- That latest and greatest in the series! Great for those big city shows.
- Blurry Page Tape Cover
- Now that I've upped my ram, photoshop can actually do things on my computer. Like make this tape cover. The design was a joint effort by my girlfriend Ann and I.
- Warhol-Inspired Tape Cover
- Ann and I are back with a new cover. Enjoy!
- Chairman of the Boards Tape Cover
- Page doing what he does best. This was a solo effort.
- Bands That Allow Taping
- Before you bring your taping gear to a show, check out this page to make sure that the band you are planning on taping will let you do so. There are many more bands on this list than you might think.
- The Live Taper's Survival Guide v1.0
- Written by Jeff Maggard, this file should be read by ANYONE who is going to be taping their first live show. Or their 30th. The checklist of gear to bring is invaluble.
- Portable Analog Deck Information
- This is an old file I found tucked away in the Phish Archive. It gives a list of portable analog decks, their pros and cons, and their market prices circa 1993. If you are interested in analog taping, this file is worth a look.
- The DAT-heads Homepage
- While I am a lowly analog taper, I still found much of use at this site, especially the information about microphones. DAT tapers should already have this bookmarked, but in case you didn't, here's your chance.
