Subject: BEAUTY OF MY DREAMS - lyrics, etc. From: benjy eisen Date: 1997/02/28 Message-Id: <5f7qvr$fir@agate.berkeley.edu> Newsgroups: rec.music.phish [More Headers] (Yes, of *my* dreams too...) For some reason I was expecting this tune to be a "mellow bluegrass" tune, if there is such a thing. I guess since the first setlists from Cologne mislabeled it as "Mid-Highway Blues" I was expecting something more along those lines; something similar to the style of Long Journey Home, Blue and Lonesome, Nellie Cane, Old Home Place. Instead this is more akin to Uncle Penn, and runs at the same high-powered full-throttle breakneck pace. __________________________________________________________ BEAUTY OF MY DREAMS (transcribed from 2/16/97 Cologne, GER) One day I met the beauty of my dreams Such pretty eyes, you know (lyric flub...) it seems Long hair that flowed down behind I had it all, you know I was so blind I wound up on her side of town and light and music all around I gazed into her eyes and she in mine She had me in a trance it was so fine Now I cry cry cry I can't get over her though I try I'm blue blue blue Should've known she never could be true (Page solo!) Well the fun didn't last for very long I found her house, (some lady?) said your wrong The girl you seek don't live here anymore We all knew the pain that was in store Now all I have is a picture and a frame She disappeared the same way she came She made a wreck of me and I find I'm outside, you're always on my mind Now I cry cry cry I can't get over her although I try I'm blue blue blue I should've know that she never could be true (Trey solo!) Now I cry cry cry I can't get over her 'though I try I'm blue blue blue I should've known she never could be true _________________________________ Well, YEEHAW!!! This one sure is one of 'em country fried high-powered "El Rodeo" hoedowns! I'm impressed by how tight they were with it, considering it was a breakout and all...apart from an early near-lyric-flub, all the notes were hit clearly, etc. I'm looking forward to seeing this one live, especially in the slots where Uncle Penn, Paul & Silas, Rocky Top, Poor Heart and My Sweet One go...this one fits right in with those. The vocal melody is **very** Johnny Cash - similar to "Big River" or "I Walk The Line" meets the music of Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Boys. Fun!! Walk with light my friends, Benjy
