The Dorset Theatre Festival offers plays a regional, professional production.  The festival has played an important role in the development of many plays seeking the ultimate production - opening in New York. The Dorset Theatre Festival is one of New England's most widely known cultural events.

This site focuses on dramatic workshops for K-6 and acting workshops for grade 6 and up.  These are real workshops that were done by drama facilitators and can be modified to suit the needs of any particular group by making a few modifications to them.  There is also a set of improv exercises for grades 6 and up.  This site would be perfect for classroom teachers who are not specifically trained in drama because of the simplicity of it’ layout and explanation of terms but could be equally useful for studios offering drama programs to kids and teens.

DRAMATISTS GUILD OF AMERICA

The only professional association for playwrights, composers and lyricists. In its efforts to advance the rights of its more than six thousand members, it features helpful theater links, columns and features from The Dramatist, and assistance to members on contractual issues. In these times of assaults on the First Amendment, it issues public statements in support of theater.

ECHO THEATRE'S HOME ON THE NET 

A dynamic website for a Dallas, Texas non-profit theater, which boasts of 'unearthing the power of the female theatrical voice'. Includes an explanation of their focus on women's theater, upcoming events with descriptions and ticket information, past productions, (which in
themselves are revealing of Echo Theatre's mission statement,) and links to other
Dallas area theaters.

EDINBURGH GUIDE (UK)   The Edinburgh and Scotland Theatre Section of the Edinburgh Arts and Entertainment Guide. 

A guide to theater in Scotland', this comprehensive website lives up to its promise, plus is updated every few days by our very own splendid Thelma Good. The current theatrical offerings are listed by city, often accompanied by links to previews and reviews. Very comprehensive. Also included are diverse arts, music, clubs, film, gallery, and photography links. There are even listings of Scottish productions touring elsewhere. Festivals are here as well, including the upcoming Edinburgh Festival, complete with simultaneous Fringe, Jazz and Film festival links. 'Useful Theater Links' maps, articles, and awards, round out a complete overview of the theater and arts scene in Scotland, of equal value to a visiting ICWP tourist, or native Scotland.

E-SCRIPT

Billed as 'the internet's scriptwriting workshop', E-script offers three categories: workshops, courses, and one-time consultations on film scripts, playwriting, or TV scripts. The E-courses for all categories come in either 5 or 10 week classes- ($150, or $275 respectively). A weekly tutorial is given to the student, with the added enticement of being able to send personal emails to the instructors, join a listserve and chatroom with other students and those who have previously enrolled, and at the end of the  course, 'meet' with the instructor in a chatroom. A workshop is one-on-one via email between student and instructor, with the same benefits: and the third option, is a one-off critique of scripts for a flat fee of $150. There are resources of Q&A, international bits and pieces of news with links to media. The site offers a store for books, software, CD's, etc.

FICTION WORKS

The Fiction Works publishes an extensive variety of titles in audio, paperback and e-Book titles. They take an original fictional story and produce it as an audio book, using actors, sound effects, music, etc. They do not accept plays, only stories at this time. The current competition closes June 30 2003.

THE FIELD ~ NYC

The Field provides comprehensive programming for artists on a completely non-curated basis but only in NYC. Participation is open to artists from all aesthetic viewpoints and levels of development. The priority is to create a climate where experimentation, risk-taking, and originality are championed, and where the broadest range of voices are included. There are also classes given dealing with business end of being an artist.

KENTUCKY REPERITORY THEATRE

THE KANSAS CITY WOMEN’S PLAYWRITING FESTIVAL

The Kansas City Women’s Playwriting Festival was first produced in 1995 by Potluck Productions to create more opportunities for emerging female playwrights to produce their work. The company’s goal is to produce an annual festival highlighting the best in new scripts by local (and occasionally national) female playwrights. The first production premiered at the Theatre for Young America and was invited for encore presentation at both  Johnson County Community College and  Penn Valley Community College . This organization is open to anyone interested in the creation and development of new stage works.  They offer weekly readings, they organize workshops and they conduct seminars and local contests as well as offering lectures and classes. Those who wish to participate must be able to commute in the Bay Area.  Of their many links, most are local to the Bay Area, but there are some other good general resources as well.  Full membership is $35.00 and audience membership is $25.00.

PLAYWRIGHT'S NOTICEBOARD

One of the pages of stageplays.com, the market page is a free resource for theatres and non-profit organizations and a place for playwrights to locate opportunities for production and publication.   The site boasts a free, monthly e-zine by clicking on the appropriate link near the top of the page.  This is a great online source of markets all in one handy place.  The internet theatre bookshop link is also found near the bottom of this page (look for:  Learn more about the Art and Craft of Playwriting).

THE PLAYWRITING SEMINARS 

This is a phenomenal resource site and a "must" for your favorites. Consisting of a 230+page online manual, visitors to this site will find everything from how to format a manuscript to help with developing characters, dialogue, plot etc. (click Content) to Agents, copyright information, organizations and web resources.  There's just so much that it's difficult to summarize all the wonderful parts of this
website.  A definite 5star site and a necessary tool for all playwrights.

THE PLAYWRIGHTS' STUDIO

The Playwrights' Studio, Scotland is a new initiative designed to celebrate, promote and develop Scotland's rich and growing culture of writing for live performance. It aims to secure a future for playwrights and their work by improving and sustaining artistic quality, raising awareness, and increasing opportunities and access.

SENIOR THEATRE

A website that caters to "senior theatre" with a LH sidebar featuring links covering News, Groups, Plays, make up, workshops, education and books (and others).  An article on "senior theatre" appeared in Time Magazine's May 31, 2003 issue.  The site boasts to have the largest collection of senior theatre materials anywhere. They are also the creator of "The Improv. Game" and all their materials are available for purchase online as part of the ArtAge publications.  This site provides wonderful resources for theatres and community groups looking to work specifically with seniors. 

SLIGHTLY OFF BROADWAY

Slightly off Broadway is a performing arts studio offering classes for those interested in becoming a "triple-threat".  With instruction in voice (specializing in musical theatre and pop), dance (including tap, jazz, ballet and theatre dance) and drama (musical theatre style), the studio offers a wide variety of classes.  Owners Jacqueline McMahon (ICWP) and Connie Fairbrother also write original scripts to be performed by kids and teens.  The site also features Connie's original dance and activewear and a selection of performing arts gift items. 

SMALL-CAST ONE-ACT GUIDE ONLINE

This site is basically a listing of one act plays utilizing small casts. Plays can be searched by title, author, genre or number of characters. Clicking on a play takes the site visitor to another page where a brief
synopsis of the chosen work gives information on number of characters, author, and a plot synopsis.  Contact information (how to order) appears on this page as well.  Be sure to check out the ICWP playwrights whose works appear on this site.

SUNDANCE THEATRE LAB

The official site of the Sundance Institute and the Sundance Film Festival.  LH sidebar has links for applying to Sundance, Job Opps, conferences and the festival store.  For anyone near Sundance, Utah or able to travel there, the institute has a very active calendar of events and programs.  Those working on film scripts or film projects will find this site very useful.

Larry Stark's Theater Mirror site is the theater arts magazine of the internet and shares information with New England Theater 411.  There are links to auditions for actors, calls for production teams, lists of coming attractions and much more.  Current news is featured on Larry's daily update.  The site has a lot to look at and is worth a visit.

Includes a link to "Playwrights' Platform" - a summer festival at the Boston Playwrights' Theatre for the development of new plays.

THEATER PUGET SOUND

Theatre Puget Sound is a trade and service organization for those
involved in theatre in and around the Seattle, WA area. Their mission statement is to "promote the spiritual and economic necessity of theatre to the public, and to unify and strengthen the theatre community through programs, resources and services."

There is a "members only" section for individuals and groups.  Individual member benefits include an email listserve, discounts and free services on ‘tps’ events and productions and discounts on area theatre tickets and more.   Organizations receive all the individual member benefits as well as between 2 and 6 individual memberships, complete listing on the site, calendar listings at SeattlePerforms.com, preferred business referrals, promotional discounts and a media packet including the current directory.

Individual memberships are $50.00. 

Organization memberships range from $75.00 for a small group to $500.00 for a large. 

There are also categories for non-profits, educational associates, unions, festivals and corporations at varying price levels.

THEATRE RESEARCH INSTITUTE ARCHIVE - TRI ~ (Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee Theatre Research Institute) 

The TRI (of Ohio State University) collects and maintains performing arts research materials.  Besides publishing "Theatre Studies", its annual journal, the TRI is an archive for playwrights, performers, theatre companies and others.  With everything from lecture notes to daily journals; financial information to design notes, their library is a wealth of resources.  ICWPer, Linda Eisenstein has scripts archived in the "playwright's collections" section.

Quickly search detailed descriptions of over 5,800 foundation programs for students, artists, researchers, and other individual grant seekers.

Comprehensive site for writers of many genres, including tv, radio, film, animation, theatre, books and children’s writing.  Has commission rates for different writing commissions, royalty rates etc.

TICKET 2 WRITE

A site with an extensive number of sections including articles for writers, manuscript formats, a discussion forum for writers, publishers, illustrators, agents and anyone associated with the industry.  There is a page titled, ‘Plays and Scripts’, but it looks as though there isn’t anything listed there yet.  There is also an impressive page of writer’s guides links.  This site is literally a good resource for any and all writers.
